The 2026 Sailfish Tournament season has opened with strong participation and “feast-or-famine” production. More than 130 teams have competed across the first five events, setting an early benchmark for what is shaping up to be a highly competitive year.
Across all tournaments to date, the fleet has recorded 971 total sailfish releases, approaching the 1,000-fish mark following the Miami Billfish Series Tournament of Champions. Among the events contested thus far, the Buccaneer Cup emerged as the most consistent, producing 321 releases from a 37-boat field.

At the top of the season-long leaderboard, Remix leads with 48 total releases, while VIVA, Fish On, and Priceless remain firmly in contention with 39, 38, and 34 releases, respectively.
The top single-tournament performance of the season belongs to Debaitable, which posted an impressive 26 releases during the Buccaneer Cup. Far From Free and Lo Que Soy followed with standout performances of 20 and 15 releases, respectively.

In terms of efficiency, the highest average release rate among teams fishing multiple events is held by Carolina Reel Men, averaging 10 releases per tournament. VIVA, Remix, Fish On, and Sandman continue to demonstrate consistency, each maintaining an average of 9.5 releases or better.
Looking ahead, the schedule continues with the Sailfish Challenge, the second leg of the Quest for the Crest Sailfish Series hosted by Bluewater Movements; Jimmy Johnson’s Quest for the Ring in the first week of March; and Final Sail, the final leg of the Quest for the Crest Sailfish Series.
