Built for Rough Seas, Bigger Missions
Every Wednesday, we sit down with elite captains to break down what makes them dangerous — the gear, the mindset, and the moments that separate the stage from the sidelines.
When you’re fishing to win — and fishing for something bigger than yourself — every detail matters. Just ask Captain Paul Robertson, the man behind FFMD (Fishing for Muscular Dystrophy), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and elite offshore team that’s as well-known for its results on the leaderboard as it is for its mission off the water.
FFMD isn’t just another tournament team. They’ve carved out a presence across Florida’s sailfish scene and top-tier Mid-Atlantic events, while using their platform to raise awareness and funding for families fighting muscle disease through a partnership with the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). For Paul, fishing isn’t just sport — it’s purpose.
That’s why, when it came time to outfit their 58’ Viking and 45’ Everglades, Paul didn’t settle. He called us.
“When we purchased our new Viking, we wanted a robust livewell system that could handle rough sea conditions and protect our bait throughout the day,” Paul said. “Not only did Wicked Wells have great storage for our bait — they also took the time to analyze the best pumping system and how it would integrate into our setup.”
Tournament days at Paul’s level test everything — the crew, the boat, and every system on board. There’s no margin for error. That’s when reliability matters most.
“We found out firsthand how robust their system was right away,” Paul told us. “We now store multiple bait species and don’t have to worry about what our bait will look like by the end of the day… the baits stay like new all day long.”
That’s the standard we build for: designed for rough seas, trusted by champions, and built to keep bait pristine when it matters most.
And in FFMD’s case, it’s about more than just winning. Every time their boats leave the dock, they’re fishing for awareness, funding, and hope — using their sport to push for something bigger. We’re proud to play even a small role in that mission.
